What would be the best choice of Graphics Card?

I'll be getting my tax return next week, and I've been looking to upgrade my PC for a long while now.

My graphics card isn't as high-end as I would like. I will be upgrading it, and would like some advice.

My price range will be anywhere from $100 to MAYBE $300. And my requirements are such: Runs high-end, and other ones, PC games at max-quality, with ZERO screen-lag. High FPS. Now, games I'm talking about are, ones like Mass Effect 1%26amp;2, Bioshock, Fallout 3, World of Warcraft, Left 4 Dead 2, Dragon Age Origins, Team Fortress 2, etc. And supports at least DirectX 10. MAYBE 11, since I heard news of that being way better than 10? But 11 support might jack the price up, so I don't know.

A card I have been looking at is the Radeon HD 4850. Now keep in mind, I don't know a whole lot about graphics cards. Just looking for the performance that I have always desired in my computer.

Also, it might be required of my PC to upgrade either my RAM or Processor, though I doubt it. Intel Core 2 Duo at 2.66GHz, and 2gigs of RAM. Might I need a better processor/more RAM?|||I have the ATI 4870X2 2GB, I have to say its impressive, but you need a cool running case to handle it.

I would suggest you get more ram if you MB can take it.|||I have a core 2 duo 2.8 and 4 gigs of ram. After alot of research 6 months ago I picked up a 9800 GTX+ 1 GB for about $180 (I think $150 nowadays) and the poor thing SCREAMS fast at 1920x1080 with even the best games. Plus it works with mac os x (a personal bonus to me). Check out its reviews!

Oh, and get your stuff at newegg. Its super cheap and has never let me down.|||For less than $200 you can get an nVidia GTX 260 card. These are high end video cards with GDDR3 memory, and will allow your game choices to play without pause. If you buy this card and you see lag, pause, or delay; it won't be from the video. You do however need an available PCI-e slot on your motherboard.|||ATI Radeon HD 4890 my friend : ) you wont be sorry, thats a promise. Happy gaming.

HP dv6tse or Dell Studio 15?

I am looking at buying a new laptop for college and am stuck between two different configurations from HP and Dell. I will mainly be using this laptop for web browsing and typing up assignments but I am also a light gamer (I play Sims 3 and Dragon Age: Origins) so I need decent graphics as well. I currently have an HP tx2500 and it's okay..but I really don't like how hot it gets so I'm kind of wary about buying another HP. Here are the two configurations:

My boyfriend says this is the ultimate PC setup. Will it play world of warcraft?

My boyfriend has had his eyes on this setup for quite a while. I was wondering if this is overkill for gaming or if he would need more.

$5,777.00|||It would play the WOW just as well as a $1500-2000 computer, here's why. WOW is a game that doesn't recieve a huge performance boost from a multiple graphics card setup. Here's a link to a benchmark of WOW running 2-way SLI with a GTX 580 vs. a single GTX 580. Adding a 3rd card would probably get you just a few more extra FPS.

Normally, you would see a 50%-90% performance boost by adding a second card. With WOW you're getting 30% at the most. Also, you will never visually see the difference once you go over 60FPS. A single GTX 580 is giving you 100FPS on a 2560x1600 monitor, that's impressive.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDI鈥?/a>

Here are the specs of a Computer that would play WOW at max

Core i5-2500K

P67 or Z68 motherboard

8gb DDR3

128gb SSD Drive SATA3

1TB drive for storage

Single GTX 580

850w power supply

A case with good airflow to keep the parts cool

Mouse and keyboard of your choice.

27" Samsung 1920x1080 monitor.

I would look at building the PC yourself. You will still get at least a 3 year warranty on all of the parts. You'll save money and you would have more control when it comes to future upgrades.|||this computr for just word of craft wtf ... This is a strong syrtem .

I have a 2 years collected computr that cost about 1800 $ and since i got it i only play games on ultra setting . Crysis , black ops , c搂c etc...|||Thats one lucky boyfriend you have their. O.o|||OMG THATS WAY OVERKILL LIKE REALLY I NEVER SEEN SOMEONE WILLING TO SPEND THAT MUCH MONEY ON A PC. Oh and don't buy from IBUYPOWER or CYBERPOWER because they are bull. They sent me their computers with broken parts, a lot of it not plugged in, and overall they tried to keep my money. Once again, OVERKILL I built my pc for $1000 and it runs all new games fine. Although, I would get that beast machine, it would last years and years without having to be upgraded!

New: He only needs one SSD, Video card, and monitor, but who gives a crap, IT OWNS. Although, I really would go with one monitor. No need for more then 1 as then theres black lines in between each game.|||Holy cow that is the ultimate computer setup. It never fails to amaze me how people think they need a supercomputer to play WOW when a $500 computer from best buy would work just fine.

I'm sure a setup like this is a dream to most people as well but there is a lot better ways to spend close to six grand then on this.

Why is it that PS 3 has such good graphics (same or better than PC), and still manage to run smoothly?

How come the PS 3's graphics are on the same level, or better than PC games, even though the PS 3 graphics card is only half as powerful as the recent graphics cards? I would say the PS 3 graphics would match any new PC game with graphics turned to the highest setting.

For example, when I play Dragon Age 2 on the PS 3, the graphics are excellent, and so is the performance.

But, when I play Dragon age 2 on my Core i7 computer with 6 Gig ram and Geforce GTX 295, I have to turn the graphics setting to the lowest one, and it still lags?|||Apparently, there are others having problems running this game with NVIDIA cards and it doesn't look like there's a fix. See the link below. Most likely, the game wasn't optimised (coded correctly) for the NVIDIA architecture. The PS3 hardware is much less powerful than a GTX 295, but the game runs well on it's architecture. Ever notice that you can't turn up the eye candy on console systems. PC graphics are way better and you can't game at 2560x1600 on a console.|||Technically that is not true. PC's will always outperform any console for the simple fact that PCs are not locked into their graphics card. Remember that the PS3 and XBox have the same graphics card from 3-5 years ago. They cannot change this ever. When they made the chipset for them back then they were equivalent to the best PC could do at the time. Since time has past newer, better cards have been made for the PC. However, to get them one needs to fork out cash and HOPEFULLY there are developers out there willing to push those cards to their max...which most wont...why? because they need to ensure there are sufficient consumer base to buy their product.

All in all though when you compare games on a whole the PC graphics will logically be better than PS3/XBox....but it is dependent on the developer. For example Crysis 2 cannot be done to the same level on PS3 ...but they certainly can trick the PS3 to remove certain aspects to give the illusion.|||the ps3 has all of its hardware dedicated to running one application- your game. Whereas your PC may be running other applications in the background (explorer.exe, steam, etc.)

I don't know why dragon age would lag on your machine, make sure you're not running anything in the background. Close all applications before you start the game, my friend.|||Because PS3 focuses there's game only on graphics and are often not fun not to mention there on blue ray disc so they can hold alot more.|||the blu-ray disk drive and graphics card combo will do this every time

they don't need to run the memory all over the place just to play a game

and it cost only 300.00

HP pavilion dv7-3180us Entertainment laptop, gaming performance?

Here are some of the specs, but I basically want it to be able to run Dragon Age: Origins.

*Processor - Intel Core i7-720QM processor with Turbo Boost Technology

*Processor speed - 1.60GHz; with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.80GHz

*Memory - 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 DIMM) Max supported =8192MB

*Accessible memory slots - 2

*Display - 17.3" Diagonal HD+ High-Definition LED HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1600x900)

*Video graphics - Nvidia GeForce GT 230M with up to 2815MB total graphics memory with 1024MB dedicated

*Hard drive - 640GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive (SATA)

Opinions anyone? I know people have played Dragon Age on Pavilions, there have been videos on youtube, but I wanted personal opinions of those who have had experience with the dv7 series and their gaming performance and quality.

-Many thanks|||Please be very careful when buying an HP. In my opinion they are garbage. I say this as they have good specs but customer support is terrible and their systems are not much better. My wife owns an HP CT1000 tablet ($1700) that has been back to HP 3 times now. My less than a year old HP printer bit the dust, HP already wants $ to fix a timing issue with the paper feeder. Please if your going to use this as a gaming rig check out the website I have referenced.

  • What happened to the "game" in "video game"?

It seems like every gamer considers things like story and graphics and multiplayer to be the most important components of a good video game, when the game part seems to get left behind.

For instance, I love to play a good shooting game. Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Gears of War are amongst my favorites. But out of those, Gears is the longest, and it's a little over 10 hours on your first playthrough. Really? Ten years ago, ten hours was considered too short. Now, it's considered just right. The gameplay is great in these games, but it just doesn't last. Multiplayer does not, in any way, shape, or form, make up for a short game. No game should need to stand on multiplayer alone. I don't care if it's Quake 3 or Unreal Tournament, it ought to be against the law to concentrate on multiplayer.

So, in my quest to find a long game well worth my hard earned money, I bought (over a period of a few months) Fallout 3, both Mass Effects, Oblivion, and I'm looking at Dragon Age. Never before has an RPG held my interest, but that's because I’ve always associated RPG with "stand in a line and take turns punching each other with a menu button." This concept was one I hated, and still do, but the WRPG's that I've got are immersive, interesting, and expansive. But the actual game parts are still a bit lackluster. Out of all of them, only Mass Effect 2 could really work without any story or dialogue. I'm also having a hard time calling ME2 an "RPG" with a straight face, more like a story driven third person shooter. The "take cover" style of game play just doesn’t work anywhere near as well as it does in Gears 2. It isn’t bad, by any means, but if you’re going to rip off a game you might as well go all the way, and ME2 only half-heartedly does it. In Gears, you can roll away, crouch and run, crouch in cover, and the camera swings to the right or left of your character depending on where and how you are aiming. ME2 doesn’t have any of this, only the basic “back against the chest-high wall” maneuver.

What I’m saying is that nowadays, games are too focused on the “other stuff”. I’d like a game that’s as long as Oblivion, as polished as CoD4, controls as well as Gears 2, has a story as expansive and interesting as Mass Effect, and just drops any thoughts of “multiplayer” whatsoever. Any suggestions, and who agrees?

Sorry for the incredibly long question. I have one more - Is Dragon Age turn-based at all?|||1. Halo: CE had the best story of the three primary Halo games and those you mentioned in the first paragraph. I understand that it's an arguable point, but I'm speaking from a strictly structural point of view.

    2. Campaigns in video games are getting shorter because the plots in the stories are more interesting and, as such, need to be more condensed to maintain pacing and flow.

    3. Agreed, multiplayer does not define the game experience. You should understand, however, that the casual gamer is the largest demographic to play video games and the competitive gamer is the largest demographic to purchase games when they are first released. Highlighting good multiplayer is a marketing tool, as well as an extension of a game's primary function.

    4. The cover system employed by Gears and ME2 was pioneered by an underappreciated game called KillSwitch, which was then revolutionized by Ubisoft for Rainbow Six: Vegas. Gears is by no means original and ME is not copying Gears. RS:V2 was far more successful than either of those games. Cliff Bleszinski said himself he took inspiration from RS and made the cover system more like a game of paintball, which multiplayer strongly represents: People hiding behind cover until some one hacks you to bits with a chainsaw

    5. A game can't have everything. I don't think, and hundreds of thousands of other people will agree with me, that a game like Oblivion is incomplete or lacking in any way. MW2 certainly has multiplay failings, and the character in gears 2 doesn't move quickly enough in multiplayer for my tastes. There are plenty of single player games out there that are interesting and have multiplayer, like MW2, RS:V2, and Gears 2, that don't hurt the experience of the story. Halo: Reach and ODST are great examples. Just don't let the multiplayer bother you.

    6. I never experienced turn-based strategy in DA, and I don't believe it was ever marketed as such.|||Whether the game stands on multiplayer, partially or alone, is dependent on what the game is. Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 are amazing games. They are great games that are multiplayer. If you haven't played L4D 1-2 or TF2, you are cheating yourself out of fantastically balanced game play either in co-op or versus.

I'm not entirely certain what you mean by "actual game parts" or the notion that a game like Mass Effect 2 or any RPG would need to be judged without dialogue or story. RPG's are about telling stories. Games, though defined by interactivity, are frequently considered vessels for telling stories. If you don't want story, play Tetris. Or pong.

Gears of War did not invent cover systems, and utilizing a common mechanic does not mean that you are trying to rip off another game, or that you did not do it as well.

If you have trouble calling Mass Effect 2 an RPG with a straight face, that might be indicative of that fact that you do not know what an RPG is:

"A role-playing game (RPG) is a broad family of games in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making or character development" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Role-playin…

Huh. Sounds an awful lot like taking on the role of Commander Shepard. Choosing Paragon, Regegade or neutral resolutions to various situations in-game to progress a narrative. Also, it has the common RPG elements of customization, party and equipment configuration.

No, Dragon Age Origins is not turn-based. Yes, it is an RPG. Lots of the aforementioned mechanics will be present. Not alot of ducking behind cover and shooting things.|||If you buy Civilization V and set it on the right length, it could take days, if not weeks. Oh and If you are hoping for a FPS with no multiplayer? :) Good luck!

HAHAHA|||I agree to an extent, but I think you're just a bit too picky lol. To me, the Mass Effect games aren't supposed to be like the Gears games. They're two TOTALLY different type games, and the "take cover" aspect isn't all that important in Mass Effect. And you can't completely drop multiplayer, but I get what your saying. But just think about Halo without multiplayer. It wouldn't be Halo. Sure, I'd like a better campaign gameplay, but multiplayer is SO much more important in a game like that. That's why people play it, because they wanna get together with their friends (whether it be in person or online). If they could package all those things into a game, that'd be awesome I'd definately buy it, but game makers focus on multiplayer because that's what appeals to the majority of gamers nowadays.|||That may be your opinion. There are plenty of games that don't involve multiplayer if you don't want to use it. Multiplayer, and specifically online Muliplayer and MMORPG ensure that people will play the game for longer periods of time without moving on, so that game and console companies can make money from subscriptions and DLC.

Another part of it might also be that nowadays, Game Worlds are more open and have a lot more Eye Candy than they did long ago. There's more to explore, do, and see.

Which would you buy? (Computer or laptop question)?

I've been wanting a new laptop/computer for a while now and have a computer and a laptop that I'm stuck with. I just can't choose which to buy. As I have a small bedroom, putting the computer in would be hard work, but it is rather good. I'm not sure If the laptop would come anyway near the computer? I'm wanting to use it for gaming, like Rome: Total War, Dragon Age: Origins and MMO's like LOTRO and Star Wars: Old Republic etc and obviously general internet uses, Facebook/Tumblr etc. At the moment I have a nice little Toshiba (Perfect for internet browsing and some games but it couldn't handle Dragon Age 2. I will still keep this laptop though.

Thank you for taking your time to answer this.|||Definitely the Alienware. Mainly because I've never heard of Advent and just looked it up and not getting good reviews. At least Alienware is a known company here in the states and are more gaming oriented. It also has a better graphics card.

    New computer for gaming?

alright so i have a laptop but im wondering about buying a desktop for some more high end gaming. The 2 games that i would like to play is WoW (dont think that takes to much runs perfectly on my low end laptop =p) but also the game prototype. i don't no much about graphics and how high they go and all that good stuff but lets say im getting like 4 fps (estimated) on low settings and low res right now. noww my computer is definitly not made for gaming.

now something i would like is like a alienwear but without payin for all the bells and whistles. i would like a good graphics card that can handle my games but i dont no much about that. i also dont no much for the prosseser for games, memory, all that good confusin stuff.

another game i may be buyin is dragon age origins so that would be another game to try and measure up to :)

so all help is for sure welcome and if it is possible would be nice to get like a link to a either custimized comp or one that would be good at its base price.

thx all|||You didn't say how much you were willing to spend, so I'm going to spec something out for you on Cyberpower(https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/) for less than $1500.

This will max out all games easy.|||If the game runs smoothly on a console, you should get a decent framerate on medium settings with a 512 mb videocard.

preferably at *least* 2 GB of RAM. Those are the basics, but a good processor and such are also necessary. I would recommend something at or over 2.66 GHz, you'll see the number on the processor descriptions.|||If you want real high end gaming then this is the spec you would go with

    Intel Core i7 920

    Any Asus X58 motherboard

6GB+ of Name brand 1600Mhz+ Ram

    ATI Radeon 5970

    Corsair 850HX PSU

Cost you half the price of alienwares but just as powerful.|||Well I will recommend that you should go for a Dell or HP brands as they are really nice and fantastic in terms of prices and gives out value for money too.

In my opinion I will suggest that you have an option of going for a refurbished systems or laptops they are reliable too and durable too.

Plus you can easily upgrade them and you will get a good prices too

How does this ATI Mobility 5650 Laptop sound?

    This is the laptop...

    http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/g鈥?/a>

    1 TB (500GB x 2) 5400 RPM

Intel Core i7-620M Processor (3.33 GHz)

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650

    8 GB DDR3

    Price: 1399.95 Canadian Dollars

How does this sound for some "medium" intensity gaming? I want to be able to play fallout 3 and Dragon age, hopefully on max (except maybe not full AA). Its benchmarks are pretty decent (it can play Crysis on high at 25+ fps). However the benchmarks didnt say what resolution it was at. What do you guys think?|||Aw, you're just showing off.

That laptop will handle anything you throw at it. Obviously, the TB of storage will last you years. The dual HDD will allow you to easily partition or back up important files. Obviously, the i7 will be very efficient and fast. The 8GB of RAM will allow you to multitask several programs and have programs work very efficiently.

The graphics card is good, and coupled with 1GB of dedicated video memory, it will be amazing. If you ever find that it can't keep up with a game, you can upgrade the dedicated video memory (up to 4GB).

Good luck and have fun!|||That should definately work for gaming. You should be able to pull off pretty much any game at medium-high settings. I've got a mobility 4650 with a core 2 duo (it was a deal for $600 when I got it) and I can play Crysis on medium settings, I can play high on some levels but its laggy. You should definately be able to go much further with the 5650 and an i7.

Very good laptop but games lag?

Hi, I have a very good laptop, but games like Test Drive Unlimited 2, Call of Duty Black Ops, Dragon Age 2 run excellent with Medium details on but with the following specs they should run with very high details on.

so let me no and thx in advance.|||This is a very good confifuration that should meet your needs. I just have one recommendation that will definately help out your system. The 5470 is an okay card but it is very mediocre. It might do blender but you may run into playback issue, etc. It's a very weak card that retails for only about $50. Plus, if you upgrade, you have a capability to play some basic games like Sims 3 if you really want to. Go with whatever the next size up is.

Actually, I beleive the next one up is the GTS 240. Buy the cheapest card from Dell and you'll see the GTS 240 is $130 more. Instead or buying through Dell, get an ATi 5750 on your own for about $130 off Amazon, Newegg, TigerDirect, etc. The 5750 is much better than your current card and the GTS 240 as well. Dell has to mark up the prices to make profit so just buy the 5750 yourself and install it for best results with a mid-range card for the cheapest price.|||If you don't have much of a budget limit, try Alienware, their computers are wicked looking and are known for being extremely fast.

I'll also be upgrading my CPU sometime in the future.|||Amazing - your E510 can actually handle the GT 440 without a power supply upgrade. Many Dells ship with low capacity power supplies that won't handle even a modest power video card.

With a GT 440, you can play any game (the ones you list at high detail, top end games only at low).

Your processor will hold you back, however, as it's just a single core, and Dell never updates the BIOS to support processors they didn't sell in that model. A Pentium D appears to work, but not the Core 2 Duo processor line http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f鈥?/a>

How much longer do you think my computer has? Should I build a new computer?

Well I'm a gamer. I don't play all the latest games, but I do play some fairly new games and I like them on high graphic settings. However, I know my system is getting a little old and isn't quite delivering the high quality I expect. A few games I play:

    Mass Effect 1 %26amp; 2,

    Fallout 3,

    GTA 4

and a bunch of older, less demanding games.

I plan to play Dragon Age Origins, Crisis (all of them), BioShock (1 %26amp; 2), Mass Effect 3 (when it comes out) and I just want to be prepared for the newest games. I usually play FPS and RPG's on PC.

    My specs:

    CPU: AMD Athlon II x4 630 @ 3.4GHz

    MOBO: ASUS M4A785-M

    RAM: 1x 2GB DDR2 1066 (@ 972MHz due to OC instability)

    GPU: MSI Radeon 4670 1GB

    HDD: 750GB 7200RPM

    PSU: 530W continuous

    OS: Windows XP Professional SP3

    What I'm thinking to build:

    CPU: Phenom II x6 1055T or 1090T

    RAM: 4GB DDR3 1666+

    GPU: Radeon 5770 or 5830

    HDD: 60 - 120GB SSD and 1TB+ HDD.

    OS: Win7 64bit (Ultimate?)

So basically I want to know if building a new system along those lines is worth it. If not, how much longer should I keep my current rig until I build a new one? Any suggestions for the new rig?

Thanks for your input.|||You don't need to build a whole new computer to play tough titles well, you just need to upgrade your graphics card and upgrade to Windows 7 (for DX11 support).

Just replacing the Radeon 4670 with a 5770 would double your fps! And that probably wouldn't even require a psu upgrade... The 5770 has a minimum requirement of 450W but your OC may be pushing power consumption.

    http://www.techspot.com/review/209-ati-r鈥?/a>

Overall, gaming performance is about 66% GPU-based and 33% CPU-based. In older games it's actually closer to 75% GPU-based. So it's the graphics card that you really want to invest in- your current rig is fast enough to drive a Radeon 5830 or 5850, if you *really* want performance.

At stock speeds, the Phenom II X6 1055T is weaker for gaming than the Phenom II X4 965, so there's no reason to go hexacore unless you're building a video editing/3D design workstation. For gaming rigs, those additional cores are less valuable than higher clockspeed.

    http://www.techspot.com/review/269-amd-p鈥?/a>

With a GPU and OS upgrade (and arguably a little more RAM) your current rig will be good for another couple of years. By then there will be a new generation of processors and graphics cards.|||Heres the solution....get a Mac!|||I'm in the same situation as you, except I don't even have a computer for gaming yet. On what you are about to build, you could make some changes.

You don't need Win7 ultimate unless you use bitlocker or you like using different languages. You don't even need Pro unless you back up to network drives or have legacy programs that need xp mode. (you can't really run any games in XP mode, as it is more aimed at accounting software that companies rely on). I am going to get Win7 Home Premium as it is all I need. I am getting the system builder's edition as it's only $99.99, off of Newegg.

For the CPU, you don't really need a six core for gaming from what I hear. I don't think any games can use that many cores. You can get one of their 3.4Ghz x4 phenom IIs black for like 150-180? Then you have more money for a good heatsink.

For the SSD, I recommend only buying one as two in RAID can not utilize TRIM. Just get one really good one. I am going to get this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

As for the graphics, I don't know much but people on forums always tell me to go with the Radeon 5850. I really don't know.

Get a good case that is big enough to house a new graphics card. The bigger the case the better the cooling, I think.

Good luck.|||if your old computer has an pci express(2.0) slot i see no problem in just upgrading the gpu instead of replacing the whole computer.

and i feel that your new build is a little silly, i would much rather reccomend skipping the ssd and going for a better gpu. And i have never been a fan of high-end amd proccessors, if you need something more powerful than the phenom ii x4 965 you are better off with an intel proccessor. and i really think you need to prioritise better, first you get a decent gpu then you start thinking about a ssd.

this could be a i7/ 5850 build, but you would rather get an ssd?

i also reccommend pirating xp and dual booting it with ubuntu instead of getting windows 7.

or just pirating 7, but people have had problems with pirated 7 installs, so i wouldnt reccommend it.

    @luke

5850 is the way to go, it is one of the best ati cards available and there is a huge price gap between it and the 5870

5770 is ok too|||your PC really isnt as bad as you might think. the only thing i see weak about it is your graphics card.

if you were to upgrade your graphics card and get 2 more gb of Ram you would still have a very good computer.

i would probably suggest a 5830. with that and the Ram you would still be able to max out those games.

i personally think SSD are a waist. and seeing as how games are only JUST beginning to use quad cores i dont think x6 are necissary.

Thanks. :)|||Yes, it's all completely compatible. Socket LGA 1366 motherboard and processor (6-core), triple channel DDR3 memory. 64-bit OS to run the 12 GB RAM effectively.

The 750W power supply is good for a single GTX 580, though it wouldn't handle a second one in SLI mode. That's fine, because unless your video software takes major advantage of CUDA or OpenGL co-processing, the 580 is way overkill for a video editing system (great for gaming, though).

For video editing, the onboard audio is more than sufficient, as very few camcorders record in anything better than stereo.

The 990X beats out the newer i7-2600K Sandy Bridge processor by 16% or so in video processing. Of course it costs 3x as much, so I only recommend the 990X if price is not a concern.|||The mother board and i7 processor are compatible.

(It would only look very smooth if ran on minimum settings.) Really the graphics cards aren't that much different and the processors are both great same with the hard drive space the only MAJOR difference between the to is the RAM which you only really use if you multitask a lot.

I'm a little bit more familiar with ATI brand cards and my card is a 3650 HD 1 GB version and that runs about 40-80 dollars depending on the manufacturer. That card runs every game, not really at the highest quality because of the rest of my specs but its still a great card. However I just bought a GTS Gforce 250 for $110 with a $30 dollar rebate and I hear it's a lot better than the 3650. (or at least not without major lag). A card for under $100 won't even come close. You might as well stick with the built in video if you don't want to spend over $100 for a better card. (x4AA) ... but crysis it barely gets over 40fps with high settings let alone V high... ITS MAD! lol I know i dont have the PERFECT gaming pc but it can run 99% of games out now at full max with a good fps!...Its hardly that great when you compare the graphics to like far cry 2 etc. IS crysis just badly programmed or something? thanks :)|||There are several reasons why Crysis is so demanding. Many think it is because it has very good graphics. This is partly true, however, the main reason why Crysis is so demanding is because it is and 'open world game.' Basically what that means it it loads the whole island in one go, so your PC is handling tons of enemies, tons of props, tons of trees, loads of water ect. and it is doing it all at once. This is a lot of work for a PC to handle. Most games just need to load a part of a small level, so your PC can handle them easily, but on Crysis it has to handle a lot at once. This is why GTA IV is also quite demanding (although not as much as Crysis). So, that is why Crysis is so demanding. Hope this helped!

Power Supply ATX 12V 350W -- If needed I can upgard to 500W

I need something that can run Dragon Age 2 and Flight Simulator. As you can see the Integrated card just wont hold up. So with a budget maxing out around $200 what should I look at?|||A new power supply is a must. You can get a decent 550w for about $50. DO NOT cheap out. You should have enough left over for a Radeon 6850.|||uhm flight simulators are very gpu intensive but id say get a quality 550-600 antec psu and that will cost round 60 bucks ,and that will leave you like 140 so a radeon 6790 would be the best choice itll cost round 137 for the his version which is a great card, this is on newegg and comes with dirt 3 for free, but idf you can afford an extra 20 you can get a radeon 6850 from saphire which is by far the better performer and it comes with dirt 3as well

Is this a good gaming desktop?

I am going to play these games: Red Faction Guerrilla, Bioshock 1 %26amp; 2, Left 4 Dead 1 %26amp; 2, Dead Space, Gears of War, Mass Effect 2, and Dragon Age. Hopefully at 1080p on max settings. Will all of this run well? By well I mean above 35fps always? Thanks ahead, here's the build.

Oh, yeah. I also want to eventually add another 5850 and crossfire them. Will the psu be enough?|||no need to get another video card, it will play all those games at 1080p no problem over 35 fps. The psu could handle 2, although you would probably want more Watts, but stick with 1 5850 and youll be perfectly fine, otherwise great computer setup|||ya itll work fine, similar to my friend's build|||With that spec, you'd be looking at 200 FPS.

    Suggest a decent gaming laptop...?

I have a job as a security guard and I work the 12 hour shifts. Their internet prevents me from watching things on Hulu, Netflix, and Youtube... which sucks. So I am thinking of buying a laptop that I can play some single player games on to pass the time.

For a while, I was thinking of getting something like the Asus G73, but that is way more than I need and costs quite a lot.

I will probably reinstall some classics like Rollercoaster Tycoon, Fallout 1%26amp;2, Planescape: Torment, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, System Shock 2 (might not be smart when working the night shift...), Deus Ex, and others... but I also hope to be able to play some more modern games like Bioshock 2, Serious Sam HD, Borderlands, Dragon Age, Amnesia, Starcraft II, Singularity, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., and others.

I don't need to be able to play games like Metro 2033, Crysis, BFBC2, or other cpu/gpu heavy games at high or anywhere close. Just something that will play thos types at medium with at least 30 fps.

I always build my PCs but this would be my first venture into laptops for gaming... so I just want to get a pre-built Sony Vaio, Asus G**, Alienware MX11, or whatever.

So please suggest a great laptop that can play those games at medium-medium/high. No need for bluray, screen resolution above 720p, quad core CPUs, or anything else around those lines... just something to get me through 12 hours shifts at night.

p.s. as for sound and input, I will just use my own 5.1 headset and gaming mouse.|||My dear i was having same problem,i wanted to play decent games but the gaming laptops are all over efficient, then i got a really decent laptop which is HP Envy 14-1110nr 14.5-Inch Relic Laptop PC - Up to 3.45 Hours of Battery Life (Carbon) it is simply decent and upto your needs.

They are a little expensive but they are the bomb in portable gaming! I've got an XPS and it is awesome. I've had it for 4 years now and it still plays recently released games like Starcraft 2.|||Well i have a few so my advice would be an Alienware laptop, or for something cheaper Acer 6930G or Acer 6935G with the 9600M-GT 1 GIG card. NOT GS OR CUBA OR ANY 512 CARDS.

It's the only laptop I know of that runs all games nice and cool with hardly any sound from the fan, all other laptops overheat.

The Acer is discontinued to you will need to search ebay and other places for recons.

The 6835 has 4 GIG DDR3 RAM and blue ray, full HD

I have it and I kick @ss COD4 online, win often.

  • Should i buy games on the xbox or PC?

I am interested extremly in the graphics of the game, so should i buy the latest games (like crysis 2, dragon age 2, etc...) on my xbox, or my HP laptop with i5-430 2.26ghz, 4gb ram, and 2 x HD 5650 graphics card ? although i cant play crysis 2 on very high, but my HP compared with the xbox, which on gives the better quality and sharpness in the image ! thanks, and the xbox, i do have an HD tv|||Well, overall games usually look better on computer, and a lot of people prefer the keyboard and mouse over the remote for some games, (usually First Person Shooter Games). That being said, if RTS or MMO's are what you like then PC. Their are some for 360 like BFME 2 and Halo RTS but they usually don't play well. And with Computer if you do want to use a remote you can use a 360 controller.

However, PC has one very big pitfall. It crashes. Games on computer are riddled with things to crash over. With consoles that is usually never a problem unless the Disk is messed up. You never get to the end of a level and get error code 1255662 application terminated.

But, the reason why I play PC games over consoles is because of Mods. RPGs are always to be played on PC because usually you can always expand upon your game.

Your Computer should play games fairly well, Ram isn't to high and a lot of computers today can hold about 8 GB's and that would really help with games if you needed it to.

Don't look at Crysis to see if you can game on Computer, It's settings are still on top, I think even higher than Crysis 2's. Crysis 2 from what I have heard looks better than the first but doesn't require as much hardware, that is what time does.

Over all, I like to get games on PC over consoles because I like the Keyboard and Mouse, the more customization options, and the Modding community. Also, you said your computer is a laptop - playing games where is what would sell me. Mine is a desktop, I wish it was a laptop. Having a good compter for games is great

But Consoles not crashing is a big deal also to me, just not as big of a deal as the PC perks. Overall, if it were up to me, PC. But Console isn't bad either.|||The PC version has better capabilities on most games for graphics, but your laptop may not be able to run them as well as your Xbox. It'll likely depend on the individual game's system requirements.

    Which gaming setup is better?

Im buying a dell xps 8100.

I want to be able to play Crysis, Dragon Age: Origins, Starcraft 1 and 2, Star Trek Online, WoW, Guild wars 1 and 2, CSS, Star wars online (when its out)

    All on High settings.

    1. Intel庐 Core鈩?i5-650 processor(4MB Cache, 3.20GHz) nVidia GeForce GTS240 1024MB GDDR3

    1TB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs) 21.5" Dell ST2210 Full HD Monitor with VGA cable

    640GB Performance RAID 0 (2 x 320GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM) 21.5" Dell ST2210 Full HD Monitor with VGA cable

Which one will allow me to do this?|||I would go with number 1. Processing speed and memory will have to be high. I'm pretty sure either one of the video cards can handle the games.|||Number 2 for sure. The ATI HD 5670 offers great performance and dx11 (if you like crysis then you should know that crysis 2 will support dx11).I have it myself and i run crysis on very high settings.Combine it with 4 GB of RAM DDR3 and you should be just fine.
