Some questions about my current desktop display performance?

Hi everyone

I have a PC ( athlon x2 255 3.1GHz, AMD HD 6870, 4GB ram) and using ASUS MS238H (Full HD 1080, 2ms reponse time) as the display through DVI to HDMI port. Overall it performs well but somtimes when gaming, at some points the screen appears some tearing ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Tearin鈥?/a> ), also when I play HD movie it can't run smoothly. I tried to lower resolution in game, enable vsync but it seems doesn't solve it. It's not happening in certain games like GTA 4, Battlefield bad company 2, Dragon Age, Far cry 2, Batman Arkham Asylum (play at high setting and 1920x1090 res), it happens in The sims 3, Dead Rising 2, Divinity 2, assassin creed 2... Anybody has any idea what's going on please help. Thank you very much.|||I would double-check device manager and make sure it is recognizing your monitor as the correct model. If not, update the driver (inf file). Also, I would check to see what refresh rate is recommended for the monitor. Flat panels usually have an optimal setting. Anything else usually doesn't look that good. In your case, its probably 1920x1080 @60Hz refresh. If you are not sure, under Monitor Settings (in Windows) check the box that says something like "hide modes this monitor can not display". Then try one of the one listed. My monitor (HP 2710m) has an odd refresh rate of 59Hz, so its worth checking.

If all that doesn't work, check the cable. If you have another one you can swap, try another cable to see if you get the same results. Personally, I had a little trouble using a cable that had a DVI to HDMI adapter with an old Windows Media Center box. DVI to DVI or HDMI to HDMI cables have never given me any issues though.
