When you do it yourself you can get MORE POWER.
The great thing of building your own PC is you have more flexibility when it comes time to upgrade. Vendor built PC's usually have a power supply that just big enough to power the system. Also, you're stuck with whatever RAM and Hard Drive they give you. Every part usually has a 3 year warranty.
Specs for a gaming PC
Core i5-2500K
P67 or Z68 motherboard
4gb-8gb DDR3 RAM. 1600mhz whould be a good speed.
GTX 570 or Radeon HD 6970
The GTX 580 is a small 12% faster at $150 more.
The ultimate gamers video cards are the Radeon HD 6990 and GTX 590. These cards have two GPU chips on them and these cards do need a huge power supply.
I would recommend a 750w power supply from Corsair or Antec. Also, It would be best to find a case with good airflow. Antec, Cooler Master, Thermaltake, Corsair and NZXT are popular case manufacturers.
For gaming, I would recommend at least a 1680X1050 monitor. Also, the higher the screen resolution on your monitor the less Frames Per Second your graphics card can produce. A 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 monitor is fine but with those you may need a more powerful card like the GTX 570.|||http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc/
