Its old but does what i want it to do.
Original E6300 1.8gz CPU
Gigabyte 965 DS3P rev 3.3 motherboard
4GB (2x2GB) 800mhz memory
(overclocked from 1.8gz to 3.4gz)
ATI 3850 512mb graphic card
3 Harddrives (640gb, 320gb...come to think of it the 640gb drives in 2 partitions)
Windows 7 ultimate 64bit
TV tuner card
All enclosed in an Antec 300 case with all fans fitted.
No as i said, it can do what it needs to do. I use it for everything from gaming, watching movies, bit of graphic design. Games i play at the moment are Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3 %26amp; Nevada, FM 2011, Orange Box, Dragon Age 2, Bioshock 1%26amp;2. and i can play crysis on med/high settings and get about 30-40 fps.
No i know theres alot of new hardware out there and im tempted to upgrade my pc. What would you recommend upgrading?
As for money... 拢200 max.
Thinking of case modding 1st. Wiring needs sorting out so thought of strippin it all out. Spraying the inner case black, cut more holes out so i can feed the wires behind the mobo and maybe add sound proofing to it.
Also thinking of getting another 4GB of memory. Mobo has 4 module banks for memory and can take upto 16Gb. Then theres the graphics card..... maybe ATI 5770 or 6850...|||WOW!!! DUDE! You overclocked from 1.8 to 3.4?? Unless you have a serious cooling system that processor is going to burn up in a matter of days!! Well, anyway, here's what I think. First of all, make sure you leave your hard drive alone. Getting a bigger hard drive would be a total waste of money because nobody needs hard drives bigger than 320 GB due to the small sizes of files these days. As for your memory, you don't really need more than 8 GB. Let me explain. Your operating system takes up about 1 GB of memory. All your various browsers, documents, and other programs take up another 1-1.5 GB of memory. And then you should have another .5 GB for all your various background programs. So that's 4 GB already. And then your game takes up another 1-2 GB. So, if you want to have plenty of various windows open, and play games at max. settings, you definitely don't need more than 8 GB (even 6 GB would be okay). The real problem is in your video card. Your video card is also alright. You could probably sell yours on eBay for $10-$20, and then spend that money plus some money from your budget to get something better. Here's a fantastic resource: http://www.videocardbenchmark.com/ Now, click on high-end video cards. Find your video card (by searching it in Ctrl + F) and you can see that its rating is 801, which is pretty good. You could change it, but I don't think you have to. The real problem is in your processor. You have a Pentium. No matter how much you overclock it, that processor is useless. The list of useless processors is as follows (from bad to worse): Pentium, Athlon, Celeron, Atom. Those are the worst processors out there. Here's another great resource: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/ It's from the same company that rates the GPUs, but they rate processors, also (and hard drives and systems and even mobile phones!)!! So, click on high-end CPUs. So here is your dilemma. You definitely need a new processor, it would be a good idea to get more memory, and you could use a new video card. You do have a slight problem, though. Your memory is only 800 Mhz. That's very slow. But it would have a minimal impact on performace if you got faster memory and it would cost a lot so whatever. So here's what I would do. I would get 2 GB more memory for $26 from the following website: http://www.compuvest.com/Search.jsp?Sear鈥?/a>
So now you have $300 left. I would get the following processor: Six-Core AMD Opteron 2427 (it has six cores while your current processor has only two!!!!) It's fantastic value for money, because it has a great rating according to PassMark, and is only $122 at Amazon!!!! That's very cheap for a powerful processor like that. So now you still have about $180 left. I would get the Radeon HD 6870. That is an extremely good video card. As you can see it is 12 places from the best video card in the world and it's only $174!!!!! That is great value.
P.S. You might need a better power supply if you're going to get all these components; make sure you look in to that.
Additional Details: FPS Gamer is actually right. If you only upgrade the GPU it will be way too powerful for your processor, and you won't see very much of a change because your CPU will be too slow for the GPU. Your GPUs performance is strictly limited by the performance of your CPU.|||I would not get a 5770 or a 6850 with that low end of a CPU. Your CPU will bottleneck the hell out of your video card.
To be honest if you want good upgrade it sounds like you need to save up some more cash and possibly do a overhaul of your system. That motherboard will support LGA 775 quads but I wouldn't invest the money into old tech form 2008.|||It's pretty much old cpu so you can think to cpu upgrade to. You can think about GPU upgrade 1st after modding but it's nice configuration in my opinion|||A Mac. You'll never go back.|||amd 965 for cpu|||3.4 ghz from a 1.8 ghz processor, quite impressive.
If you want to upgrade the CPU, you can probably scrounge around for a second hand Core 2 Quad Q6600. But it's definitely not a very good investment because the Core 2 series are very outdated, and they have lost their value significantly. I would keep the same CPU for now.
The GPU will probably be the best thing you can upgrade there. Grab yourself a new Radeon card somewhere in the ballpark of 200 pounds and you should see a massive difference in framerates.
You don't need any RAM upgrades, besides the games you play don't require more than 4 gigs of RAM.
